Get a Dog.
Congratulations! You've made the big decision to bring home a furry family member! It's important to understand that this is not just one of the most exciting events in life, but also a huge responsibility. It requires a lot of preparation and acquiring everything you need for the dog. Consider the following questions: Do you know a reliable veterinarian? Is your home safe for your pet? If you have children, have you talked to them about the importance of gentle handling? These questions are just the beginning. Make a list of questions you need answered.

BEFORE GETTING A DOG.
If you decide to get a dog from a shelter there are some things you need to do before you bring it home. First, you should remove all dangerous and valuable items - chemicals, cleaning supplies, clothes, shoes, etc. - from the house or field. This means keeping cabinets covered, kitchen counters and floors clean, and electrical wires and cables out of sight or embedded in walls. Make sure your dog has suitable toys to satisfy his interest - this can help. If you have young children, introduce your dog and child gradually. Do it slowly and consistently so that their interaction is positive. It's harder to do if you already have other pets. If they don't become friends right away, keep them in separate rooms and gradually allow them to spend more and more time together. Keep an eye on the pets when they are together until you are completely sure everything is going well.

AFTER YOU GET A DOG.
The first few days after you bring your dog home are a period of adjustment, not only for your family members, but also for your dog. Make him comfortable by providing basic things like a collar and leash, food, a dog cot, a drinker, etc. Allocate a number of toys for him to play with, and create a safe environment for him by removing poisonous plants, closing off access to cleaning supplies and putting litter garbage cans higher up. As you get to know him, you'll gradually learn what your dog likes and doesn't like. Just remember to be patient and enjoy every moment of your new friendship.

How many gentle dogs "disappear" behind the high walls of the shelter?

Before the shelter, Glasha lived in a kennel at a construction site, wandering in search of food and warm shelter, trying to keep her distance from people.
Glasha has three paws, but that didn't stop her from living a full life and being placed with a good and loving family.
Look at these pictures, I wish every dog had a home!

Turn Exercise into a Form of Play

Even though sleeping on the bed seems to be her favorite activity, your dog needs regular exercise to stay healthy - and so do you! Luckily, there are plenty of activities you'll both enjoy. From trips to dog walking parks to long bike rides, combined with a well-balanced, nutritious dog food, you can help your dog live a happy and healthy life.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE

Lack of exercise for your four-legged friend can lead to health risks like obesity. But not only that. Dogs who lack regular exercise may also develop destructive behaviors such as barking, digging or chewing. We know that dogs begin to behave better when they get daily portions of physical activity.

PLAYS AND TOOLS

Physical activities don't always have to be grueling. Make your physical activity time interesting by playing with your dog. Activities like "run and fetch" and tug of war are always a winner. But if you want to do comprehensive exercise, try preparing an obstacle course for her or teaching her some new tricks. If you can't get far outside because of bad weather, get her moving by stimulating her hunting instinct. Just hide treats around the house and she will use her sniffer to look for them. You can also provide plenty of exercise with toys. Choose balls, toys to pull, plush toys, or toys stuffed with treats.

Dogs at the shelter.
When you decide to take a dog from the shelter, you are doing a truly noble deed, because the dream of every dog that was forced to end up here is to find an owner, to whom it is ready to give its undivided love and devotion. You can see it in the eyes of all our residents: they reach out to people, hoping to find a new home and a new family.

If you have decided firmly, "I want to take a dog that will be a true friend", and you have chosen one of the shelter's animals, act decisively and firmly. We will help you every step of the way to make sure you don't have any problems with your new pet.

Take a look at Dunyasha the dog's journey. She sat on a chain in the cold in Russia, but then she traveled the distance and found her family in the United States.
